The students at West Forsyth will open the 2020-2021 school year with more space for the ever-growing campus. Cooper & Company recently completed a 26,258 SF addition for the school located off Drew Rd in Cumming, GA.
The new facility features an additional 18 classrooms to help relieve the existing mobile units on site. Also, a new family and consumer science classroom, as well as a new computer lab, will be located in the new “S” Wing of the school. The two-story additions are further completion of the Forsyth County Schools 2018 Bond Referendum approved by Forsyth County voters.
Although construction for the new addition is complete, the addition will still not be utilized by students during this school year. Forsyth County Schools still has time built into the project for furniture, fixture, and equipment to be installed as well as time for the entire project team to review any last-minute punch list items.
The project was originally scheduled to be completed in June 2020 and Cooper has been able to elevate that schedule even though we were challenged with copious amounts of rain and working around an already occupied campus setting.
Completion of the West Forsyth project marks the second time in the last 5 years that our firm has had the opportunity to work with the faculty and staff at the school. Cooper & Company Project Manager Gary Goodman stated, “It was a genuine pleasure working with Tim Pope at architectural firm BRPH and Tony Norse at West Forsyth High School. Both men helped to make this project go as smoothly as possible.”
